I’m Happy to Feel Connected!

Connection and IsolationGlobal Beat

The feeling of connection to my community plays an essential role in my life. It gives me the perception that I’m not alone; I’m a part of something big and important, and I should serve others whenever I can.

In modern life it is quite easy to keep in touch with the help of gadgets. We use mobile phones, social networking sites and different programs, including Skype, Duo, Zoom, and others, every day. Pretty often the main goal of using them is to make some kind of connection with those who I love and respect.

People used to write letters or arrange the time of their land-line calls a couple of decades ago. These days the Internet is changing our life tremendously. As a result, we do not feel the borders between our countries any more. There’s no distance between us. However, some people are still feeling lonely. They may be physically surrounded by their family, friends, and relatives, but emotionally these individuals are not willing to communicate. They often prefer to search for something on their smartphones, tablets, and computers. Face-to-face meetings and communication are not that popular nowadays. And this fact makes me very sad.

I hope the tradition of spending emotional time together will come back to most people in the near future. Playing board games, reading books to each other, discussing important topics, watching and commenting on wonderful films, or simply walking outdoors and laughing together make us feel not only connected but also unforgettably happy.

I’m extremely lucky to perceive myself as absolutely joyful and content. However, let’s look around! Do others seem to be sincerely happy and cheerful? Do they have a person to hug and talk to face to face? Do these people feel they are connected? Maybe your kind look, a real smile, and an inspiring word can make someone’s day better. Why don’t we try to pay more attention to the ones who we see quite often? Let’s stay physically and emotionally connected to those who we love!
